SEH Recognized for Excellence by Texas Instruments and Motorola

Two of the world's leading electronics companies honored Shin-Etsu Handotai Co., Ltd. with supplier excellence awards for performance in 2002.

On March 25, Motorola presented its prestigious Gold Performance Excellence Award to SEH at a ceremony in Austin, Texas.  Zbigniew Radzimski, Director of Customer Interface, and Steve Moore, Global Account Executive, accepted the award on behalf of the Global SEH group.  It was presented by Jim Duckworth, VP and Director of Supply Management for Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector; Bill Walker, Sr. VP and General Manager of Motorola SPS; and Chris Belden, Corporate VP and General Manager of Technology and Manufacturing.

"We understand the dedication and commitment it takes to achieve this degree of performance excellence," said Duckworth.  Successful execution by our suppliers enables us to meet the needs of our customers."

SEH is one of just 10 Gold award winners cited for excellence in cost, quality, delivery, service and technology.  Suppliers must average a performance rating of 90 or higher to qualify for the award.  SEH's 2002 year-end average rating was 95.  The Motorola awards are presented annually to global key suppliers who have sustained excellent performance in providing products and services key to Motorola's success.  This is the second year SEH has earned the Gold Performance Excellence Award.

Texas Instruments (TI) also has honored SEH with a 2002 Supplier Excellence Award.  TI concentrates its awards on the "best-of-the-best," recognizing only those suppliers who demonstrate exemplary performance in the areas of cost, environmental responsibility, technology, responsiveness, assurance of supply and quality.

"The Supplier Excellence Awards are presented to those companies that are the highest performing strategic partners with TI, helping us create value for our customers and shareholders," said Rob Simpson, vice president of worldwide procurement, in a TI news release announcing the winners.

TI uses CETRAQ as its primary tool to communicate expectations and evaluate the performance of suppliers.  Since the inception of CETRAQ, SEH's corporate performance scores have improved each of the past five years.

This year 29 companies earned TI's Supplier Excellence Award.  SEH was the only wafer supplier recognized in 2002.

"To earn two prestigious supplier excellence awards in one year is extremely gratifying," said Dr. Shunichi Koyanagi, SEH. president.  "Despite the global market challenges facing the entire semiconductor industry last year, SEH. aggressively pursued a course of continuous improvements for the benefit of our customers.  Those improvements, and the alignment of our product portfolio with technology roadmaps, have been recognized by Texas Instruments and Motorola, and put SEH. in a very strong competitive position as the demand for silicon wafers increases.  I congratulate SEH employees worldwide for their hard work and achievement."
